Congratulations to the winners of the Genee International Ballet Competition! Francesca Hayward, 18, and Sean Bates, 18, both of the Royal Ballet School, were awarded silver medals. Orazio Di Bella, 19, of the Elmhurst School of Dance, Lachlan Monaghan, 17, and Tierney Heap, 17, of the Royal Ballet School won bronze medals.
The Royal Academy of Dance's flagship event was staged in London at the Sadler's Wells Theatre for the first time in five years. Seventy-one semi-finalists of twelve nationalities performed in front of such high profile judges as Antoinette Sibley and Royal Ballet artistic director Monica Mason. Each year, the competition is open to student dancers ages 15-19 who have passed RAD's Advanced 2 Examination in classical ballet with distinction or have been awarded the Solo Seal.
