Paloma Herrera's ABT Farewell

November 28, 2001

Ballet fans have been anticipating Paloma Herrera’s final performance with American Ballet Theatre since she announced her retirement this past fall. Herrera, one of
three ABT principals
retiring this year, originally planned to close with something new on
June 9

: playing Aurora in the company’s new staging of
The Sleeping Beauty. But this week, ABT announced Herrera’s decision to change her farewell performance to the May 27 matinee, when she’ll dance the title role in Giselle. This final role has special significance to her (she’s performed Giselle since 2001) and is well-known to New York audiences, who will no doubt be eager to watch her bring it to life one more time.

ABT’s spring season will run at the Metropolitan Opera House from

May 11 through July 4
.
