Nothing seems to intimidate Diana Vishneva. The Mariinsky prima toured her own solo show. She signed up for a guest spot with the Martha Graham Dance Company. She is forever chasing after new challenges. Her latest project? A new creation by Les Ballets de Monte Carlo director Jean-Christophe Maillot. She just spent two weeks in Monaco learning the choreography, and will be performing it in Russia over the next year.

What happens when you cross ballet with electronic music? Ballet fans found out last night, watching the innovative choreography by New York City Ballet’s Justin Peck to songs by Sufjan Stevens. At the Guggenheim’s Works & Process, the choreographer and composer, along with conductor Michael Atkinson, discussed their collaboration while NYCB dancers offered a preview of Year of the Rabbit.

Dancers live hectic lives. There isn't always time to cook up the ideal snack. Carolina Ballet corps de ballet member Cecilia Iliesiu takes a short cut: Her homemade "energy bites" skip the baking process altogether. All you have to do is stir the ingredients together, roll into balls and eat! "They're a great protein boost for five-minute rehearsal breaks during the day, or between acts during a show," says Iliesiu. She shared her recipe with Pointe.

Any dancer who plans on auditioning for companies anytime soon should watch "A Chance to Dance." The new series on Ovation follows the affable British BalletBoyz Billy Trevitt and Michael Nunn as they audition dancers across the US in order to form a new troupe. The show gives an inside peek at their process, and what they're thinking as they decide which dancers to hire. Pointe asked the two directors a few questions about the project.

 

When DanceMedia launched four years ago, we had no idea what would show up on the site. But the Pointe Video of the Month contest has ended up attracting some of the most amazing ballet clips on the web. We've gotten a peek inside The Joffrey dancing Lar Lubovitch's Othello.

Pointe is accepting applications for fall interns (September-December). Internships are unpaid, and require a two-day-a-week, onsite commitment at the magazine's NYC offices. The best "Bunheads" episodes—at least from the perspective of us bunheads—are the ones that involve lots of dancing. And the series' Nutcracker-themed summer finale episode last night certainly had plenty of dance, from Boo and Carl's sweet Fred-and-Ginger number to Michelle's fantastic Cabaret dream sequence (more of Sutton Foster doing what Sutton Foster does best, please!). Was most of the choreography a bit on the wacky side, as per "Bunheads" tradition?
