Misa K. Dance Bag
Boston Ballet principal Misa Kuranaga has a dirty little secret: The stylish gold Miu Miu bag pictured isn’t her real dance bag. “I probably shouldn’t tell you this,” she says, giggling, “but that’s a stunt bag! My real dance tote is so ratty and beat-up that I decided to use this nice one for the photo instead.”
But everything else, she swears, is real—however unusual a few of the items may seem. “Everyone always asks why I have Handi-Wipes,” she says. “I use them as toe pads in my pointe shoes. They’re like paper towels, which a lot of people use, but paper towels get sweaty and rip and make a mess. Handi-Wipes are stronger but still thin, so I can feel the floor.”
What are Kuranaga’s other can’t-live-without items? “My life does not exist without my iPhone,” she says. “I could never keep track of my guesting schedule without it. And my Altoid mints—they’re my
addiction, and good for partnering rehearsals!”
