Inside Justin Peck's New Ballet

November 28, 2001

Choreographer and New York City Ballet soloist Justin Peck must be one of the busiest guys in ballet: Somehow he’s dancing full-time while also creating what seems like a never-ending string of imaginative new works. His latest for NYCB, Everywhere We Go, premieres May 8. It marks Peck’s second time using music by indie darling (and talented classical composer) Sufjan Stevens, and his first time working collaboratively with Stevens on a score. The resulting piece is a full nine movements long—which would make us a little nervous, if we hadn’t already seen the beautiful chemistry between Peck and Stevens in 2012’s Year of the Rabbit.

Filmmaker Jody Lee Lipes directed an enticing new trailer for Everywhere We Go. He knows Peck’s work well: His documentary Ballet 422, which follows the creation of Peck’s ballet Paz de la Jolla, premieres at the Tribeca Film Festival this weekend. Take a look!
