Stars Team Up

November 28, 2001

American Ballet Theatre principal Herman Cornejo, New York City Ballet principal Tiler Peck, Alvin Ailey’s iconic Matthew Rushing, Martha Graham Dance Company star Katherine Crockett. Artists from New York City’s top dance companies are teaming up tonight for a benefit for the American Cancer Society. “Dance Against Cancer,” produced by New York City Ballet’s Daniel Ulbricht and former Carolina Ballet dancer Erin Fogarty, is now in its second year. Pointe had the opportunity to go backstage during the inaugural event last year, and got tons of amazing behind-the-scenes photos. Many of the dancers taking part said they’re doing it to give back to someone in their life who’s been affected by cancer. Ulbricht, whose mother is being treated for uterine cancer, told writer Harris Green, “Knowing my mom was in the audience made me well up inside. It was the first time she’d seen me dance in New York and I could finally repay all the love and support she’s given me.”

The performance starts at 7 pm at Manhattan Movement and Arts Center. Click here for tickets. All proceeds go to the research initiatives and the patient and family services programs that American Cancer Society funds.
