Can’t get enough of
city
.ballet.
? Every Monday, we post a new interview with a different cast member from the AOL On docu-series about New York City Ballet. For our final installment, we talk to principal Maria Kowroski.

The phrase “documentary film crew” conjures images of big, intrusive cameras and microphone booms. But for New York City Ballet principal Maria Kowroski, the city.ballet. filming process couldn’t have been less of a bother.

“It was surprisingly simple, actually,” she says. “The crews followed us around in rehearsals, but after a while they seemed invisible. They were very respectful of our space.” And the interview process, she says, was “easy and relaxed, nothing stressful.”

The result is a series that shows who NYCB’s dancers truly are—as people, not just performers. “Even fans who love ballet, who feel like they know us well onstage, get to see a different side of us through city.ballet.,” Kowroski says. “It shows what the rehearsal environment is really like, and how much we all care about each other. And that’s very rare and special.”
