The Gift of Guest Artists

For all of the endless groaning that goes on backstage during Nutcracker season, the holiday warhorse brings many benefits for the ballet world. Aside from the influx of revenue for companies and opportunities for dancers, Nutcracker also often gives audiences a chance to see top-notch guest artists from all over the world. Here are just a few of the exciting guests scheduled to perform this December—leave others you know about in the comments.

 

 

  • New York’s Dances Patrelle will bring in New York City Ballet principals Jenifer Ringer and Jared Angle to dance Sugarplum Fairy and Cavalier as well as Morphoses’ Matthew Prescott and Staatsballett Berlin’s Natalia Boesch to perform Snow King and Queen in The Yorkville Nutcracker. (December 9–12 at The Kaye Playhouse)
  • California’s Festival Ballet Theatre will be joined by American Ballet Theatre’s Gillian Murphy and Gennadi Saveliev (December 11–12), Irina Dvorovenko and Maxim Beloserkovsky (December 17–19) and Corella Ballet’s Ashley Ellis and George Birkadze (December 21–24). (All performances are held at the Irvine Barclay Theater.)
  • Florida’s Next Generation Ballet led by Peter Stark will feature NYCB principals Abi and Jonathan Stafford as well as Boston Ballet soloist Jeffrey Cirio. (December 22–23 at The Straz Center)
  • Ballet Mississippi’s
    Nutcracker will feature ABT’s Nicole Graniero and Mikhail Ilyin. (Decmber 5 at Thalia Mara Hall)
