Rambert School of Ballet and Contemporary Dance, Britain’s oldest dance school, holds first ever auditions in the USA and Canada
Widely regarded as one of the world’s leading dance conservatoires, it is visiting the USA and Canada on the search for the most exciting, expressive dancers from across the world. Based in the leafy Royal London Borough of Richmond, Rambert School is the oldest dance school in the UK, having been established by Marie Rambert in 1920. It is arguably the only school in the UK to deliver training with an equal emphasis on ballet and contemporary dance.
The School will hold auditions for the full-time vocational Undergraduate FD/BA degree in Ballet and Contemporary Dance (three year programme) in February in New York, LA, San Francisco and Vancouver.
Rambert School Principal and Artistic Director, Amanda Britton, who trained at the School and is a former dancer with Rambert (‘Britain’s national dance company’), will be making the journey to the USA and Canada to lead the search for new talent. The Accademia Teatro alla Scala Ballet School in Milan, Italy, is now accepting applications for 2017. Frédéric Olivieri has been the Director since 2006.
Duration: The complete path of the ballet school lasts 8 years, each one from September to June. An exam is given at the end of each year. If admitted, all pupils are admitted for one academic year only and must reapply for following years.
Attendance: Mandatory. Lessons are held Monday through Friday for levels 1-5 and Monday through Saturday for higher-level courses. Courses 1-3 meet in the afternoon, courses 4-7 are full-day.
Prerequisites for admission:
- Candidates who are in the 5th year of elementary school during the 2016/2017 school year may apply for the Level 1 course.
- For higher courses (Levels 2-7), the candidates must show that they are prepared to be admitted to the courses corresponding to their middle school or high school level.

Ballet 5:8 seeks male and female applicants for the 2017-2018 audition season. Ballet 5:8 Trainees perform frequently, allowing dancers to hone performance and artistry skills beyond what is often possible in student settings. Performance opportunities vary depending on Trainee ranking but include those in outreach settings and in Ballet 5:8 School of the Arts two full-length classical ballets each year. Dancers also have the opportunity to vie for performance opportunities as understudies and in selected roles alongside the Ballet 5:8 Professional Company.
Trainees who successfully graduate from the program receive individual career counseling and assistance toward moving into career fields including professional performance, dance education, and other arts fields. Trainee graduates are also considered for apprenticeship positions in the Ballet 5:8 professional company.

Audition opportunity: The International Youth Ballet Festival 2017 is a bi-lateral classical ballet Festival which takes place in both the United States and Russia. From around the world, dancers, teachers, coaches and choreographers attend from ballet schools, colleges and universities. Through performances and programs, each Festival brings together those deeply dedicated to and interested in classical dance.
In June, 2017, for the third year, St. Petersburg, Russia will host this event which takes place concurrently with the White Nights Festival. St. Petersburg is undeniably known world-wide as a capital of ballet because of the historically rich classical dance tradition and the special expertise of its teaching artists. Ballet knows no borders and is international, interdisciplinary and cross-cultural. It is a contemporary art form that evolved internationally.
The Festival benefits emerging young ballet dancers striving to become professional classical ballet artists and those desiring to broaden their knowledge of ballet pedagogy, choreography and performance. Lessons are taught by exceptional pedagogical specialists in the disciplines of: Classical Dance, Historical Dance, Character Dance, Partnering, Variations and Acting for Ballet Dancers.
