Big Stars, Small Projects

November 28, 2001

There’s something thrilling about watching great dancers from major ballet companies perform in smaller, more intimate side projects. It shows an unfamiliar side of familiar ballet faces—and it gives the dancers a chance to expand their artistry in unexpected directions.

Former New York City Ballet dancer Tom Gold offers one such side project with his pickup troupe, Tom Gold Dance. Since 2007, he’s taken top New York City–based dancers on international tours to France, Spain, Israel, Bermuda and Italy. Members include NYCB principals Sara Mearns, Robert Fairchild, Abi Stafford, Tyler Angle and Jared Angle, and American Ballet Theatre soloist Simone Messmer.

Next month, they’re performing in the United States for the first time. The dancers will present an array of Gold’s choreography. The one-night only performance will take place Monday, February 27 at 7:30 pm at New York City’s Forence Gould Hall. For tickets, visit ticketmaster.com and for more info, go to tomgolddance.com.
