November 28, 2001

You already know about the importance of healthy fats. And using oils in your cooking (in moderation) can be a good way to reap the benefits without overdoing it. A recent
article
published by the Institute of Food Technologists (IFT) describes the potential benefits of some fatty acids in nutritional oils when they’re included as part of a healthy diet. These oils may offer perks in areas like cognition, weight management, eye and brain development, and mood. Consider these four when you’re planning your next meals:

  • Flaxseed Oil
: Good source of omega-3 fatty acids, which contribute to heart health, brain development and cognition. It’s also known for its ability to help reduce inflammation.
  • Hemp Oil
: Source of vitamin E (an antioxidant), and has a balanced ratio of omega-6 and omega-3 fatty acids.
  • Fish Oil
: Known for its positive effect on cardiovascular, neurological and cognitive health, and may help with joint pain.
  • Coconut Oil
: Thought to help boost energy, skin health and dental health.
