Misty Up Close

November 28, 2001

Misty Copeland
has been one of my favorite dancers to watch this past year. The American Ballet Theatre soloist has always turned heads with her charismatic presence, but lately, she’s polished up her technique and added a beautiful sense of nuance to her natural power—and it’s made her simply magnetic on stage.

This Saturday, New York fans can catch her in person at McNally Jackson Books in Soho. Deirdre Kelly, author of the new book Ballerina: Sex, Scandal, and Suffering Behind the Symbol of Perfection, will interview Copeland, who is one of the dancers Kelly profiles in her look at some of ballet’s more controversial history. See mcnallyjackson.com for details.
