New York Theatre Ballet is NYC's New "Downtown" Company

The New York Theatre Ballet has found a new home at St. Mark’s in-the-Bowery. The company, which has received much recognition from The New York Times’ Alastair Macaulay, is known for its unique programming and affordable ticket prices, and for staging ballets on a chamber scale.

Last September, the company was told to leave its home of thirty-four years, at the Madison Avenue Baptist Church on East 31st Street, because the building had been sold to developers.

The company made it through the crisis and is now positioned to be New York’s “downtown” ballet company. Theatre Ballet is sure to find a vibrant and supportive home in the St. Marks neighborhood. It is especially gratifying to know that the company’s school and outreach programs will continue in full-force, and that Theatre Ballet has plans to continue expanding its repertoire and presence in the New York dance scene.
