One More Chance to See Sylvie Guillem Dance

Up until now, those of us in the U.S. were expecting to hear about Sylvie Guillem’s international retirement tour from afar. But yesterday brought some exciting news: Guillem has added one stop in New York. Her program, Life in Progress, 
will run 
November 12–14
at New York City Center. It will be a final chance for U.S. audiences to see this remarkable dancer, and celebrate her nearly-35-year career in ballet and contemporary dance, which has included dancing for Paris Opéra Ballet and The Royal Ballet, and collaborating with modern choreographers and theater directors.

Guillem is slated to perform two new works: a solo
 by Akram Khan, accompanied by live music, and a duet by Russell Maliphant with La Scala’s Emanuela Montanari. Also on tap: Mats Ek’s solo 
Bye, which was created for Guillem, and William Forsythe’s Duo, danced by Brigel Gjoka and Riley Watts. “I want to end while I am still happy doing what I do with pride and passion,” Guillem, who will turn 50 next year, said in a statement. “I have been on an exhilarating journey, and now I’m about to change direction.”
