Peek Inside a Nijinsky Rehearsal

November 28, 2001

National Ballet of Canada just posted great footage of the company learning John Neumeier’s Nijinsky. Between snippets of the dancers rehearsing, Neumeier explains how he became obsessed with the life of the iconic Ballets Russes dancer who famously suffered from mental illness. Guillaume Côté, who dances the title role in the ballet, also talks about why it’s so moving to work with Neumeier, whom many dancers cite as one of their favorite choreographers to collaborate with. Catch a live performance: NBoC performs Nijinsky March 2–8 in Toronto, and Neumeier’s own Hamburg Ballet performs it next week in San Francisco, February 13–19.
