Starz's Ballet Drama Has a Name—and Some Big Stars

November 28, 2001

It was nearly a year ago that Starz announced it was working on a scripted drama exploring “the dysfunctional underbelly of the ballet world”—and the network has been auditioning professional-level ballet dancers for months.

Now we finally have more details about the television series. Titled “Flesh and Bone,” it will star former American Ballet Theatre principal Irina Dvorovenko, current ABT soloist Sascha Radetsky, Ballet Arizona’s Raychel Diane Weiner and dancer/actress Emily Tyra. Former ABT principal and current Royal New Zealand Ballet director Ethan Stiefel will serve as consultant and choreographer.

That’s a lot of serious ballet firepower. The show is still searching for its lead, a “Polina Semionova type.” At this point, we wouldn’t be surprised if Semionova herself joined the cast.

No word yet about a release date, but we’ll keep you posted.
