David Hallberg Returns to the Bolshoi Amid Turmoil

November 28, 2001

American Ballet Theatre principal David Hallberg is back in Moscow again. Although he has danced as a principal with the Bolshoi Ballet since 2011, this is the first time he’s been in Russia since the devastating acid attack on the company’s artistic director Sergei Filin in January.

In this compelling video interview, PBS reporter Jeffrey Brown sat down with the 31-year-old ballet superstar to get the scoop on everything from his childhood dance inspirations and hurtful experiences with bullies, to his concerns about returning to the Bolshoi during a time of turmoil.

P.S. The video even includes clips of Hallberg’s premiere performance as the prince in the Bolshoi Ballet’s Sleeping Beauty.
