Mick Jagger's Secret Weapon on Stage: Ballet

November 28, 2001

As ballet nerds, we love when celebs fess up about how dancing fits into their fitness routine. Who’s the most recent to reveal his dedication to the ballet barre? None other than Rolling Stone lead singer and notorious bad boy Mick Jagger.

In an interview with Q Magazine, the 69-year-old rocker divulged the details of his intense fitness routine. “I train five or six days a week. I alternate between gym work and dancing, then I do sprints, things like that. I’m training for stamina,” he says. A good thing, since the singer is estimated to cover over 12 miles during a typical stage show!

Jagger also told the magazine he runs several miles a day, swims, kickboxes, cycles and practices Pilates and yoga. Of all his fitness practices, though, he swears by ballet to help his balance.

While Sir Mick didn’t mention what inspired him to pick up a pair of ballet slippers, a recent biography mentions his back-in-the-day buddy buddy-ness with ballet legend Rudolf Nureyev—who may have had more moves like Jagger than we’d originally thought.
