School of Ballet AZ Offers David Hallberg Scholarship

July 24, 2014

David Hallberg is once again paying it forward. For the second year in a row, the School of Ballet Arizona, where the American Ballet Theatre and Bolshoi Ballet star trained for four years, is offering the David Hallberg Scholarship for Boys. Open to males ages 13 and up, the scholarship pays for tuition and supplies for the Phoenix–based school’s 2014/15 school year and is based on talent and/or financial need.

Hallberg, who trained at Ballet Arizona under Kee-Juan Han (now director of The Washington School of Ballet), has been publicly open about his passion for dance as a teenager, as well as the bullying he faced for it. “My personal journey to finding ballet was riddled with hardships but once ballet found a place in my life as a kid, I couldn’t let go of its exhilarating pulse,” he says in a statement. “To pass on the inspiration I felt when I was first discovering ballet is a completely invaluable experience.”

Applications for the scholarship are still being accepted through August 16, 2014 and are available here. The audition will be held at the School of Ballet Arizona on August 23 from 3–4:30pm, and scholarship recipients will be announced immediately afterward.
