Walnut Hill Remembers Samuel Kurkjian

April 23, 2015

The Boston dance community is coming together on April 25 to remember the life and legacy of Samuel Kurkjian at the Walnut Hill School of the Arts’ Keiter Center in Natick, MA. Kurkjian, who died in 2013, joined the Boston Ballet in 1968 as a principal dancer and ballet master, eventually becoming the company’s first resident choreographer. He later joined the staff of Walnut Hill, where he was a beloved member of the faculty for 35 years.

Tomorrow night’s memorial event will feature performances by Walnut Hill dance majors, as well as the work of three alumni: two-time Princess Grace Award winner Zoe Scofield, Kate Hutter and the world premiere of Levi Marsman’s “Voices,” performed by Walnut Hill students. The dancers will also perform one of Kurkjian’s own works, “In Summer’s Wind.” All proceeds will go to a scholarship fund in his name—a fitting tribute to a remarkable mentor.
