JOB TITLE: Managing Editor

LOCATION: Remote

POSITION TYPE: Full time

DANCE MEDIA MISSION STATEMENT: To be the global leader in producing dance content of the highest quality that educates both dancers and nondancers, gives audiences exclusive insider access to the art form, and begins and deepens important conversations.

ROLE: The Managing Editor is responsible for overseeing the workflow of content for Dance Teacher, Dance Spirit, and Pointe, ensuring that high quality standards are met for Dance Media’s content and projects are kept on track and within budget. This role also contributes to the creation of content for these titles, assigning, editing, and writing articles.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Managing Editor, Pointe, Dance Teacher, Dance Spirit

  • Maintain planning grid for each issue, tracking word count, deadline, fee and story status 
  • Oversee the digital workflow, tracking the status of each story and shuttling it through fact checking and proofing stages, helping to ensure all content meets the magazine’s quality standards, guidelines, and legal requirements.
  • Coordinate contributors’ contracts and invoices
  • Oversee the production of several regular columns, assigning, editing, scheduling photo/video shoots, and uploading online content
  • Schedule editorial meetings
  • Coordinate with the sales team to oversee the production of listings

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in dance and journalism/English 
  • Knowledge of various dance genres, trends, and issues
  • Knowledge of the dance industry and community, including dance styles, artists, and events
  • 2-3 years of editorial experience preferred
  • Proficiency in WordPress, Adobe Acrobat, Microsoft Word, G-Suite
  • Extreme attention to detail and excellent command of grammar and style
  • Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet tight deadlines
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment

SALARY RANGE: $37,000–$40,000
