It’s that time of year again: Youth America Grand Prix finals. This weekend, scores of talented young dancers will descend on New York City, hoping to impress, to be seen, to win a medal, a scholarship or maybe even a job. Merde to all of the Pointe readers who will be competing!

In addition to the competition rounds (FYI, the final one, on April 26, is open to the public), YAGP also offers two gala performances filled with the ballet world’s top professionals. The annual “Stars of Today Meet the Stars of Tomorrow” gala will be held on April 27, featuring Sergei Polunin, Misty Copeland, Tamara Rojo, Herman Cornejo, Matthew Golding and others. A tribute performance to Natalia Makarova follows on April 28, with dancers performing some of Makarova’s most iconic roles. Performers include Diana Vishneva, Marcelo Gomes, Yuan Yuan Tan, Natalia Osipova and Ivan Vasiliev. For tickets, see yagp.org.
