Behind a Dance Photographer's Lens
Nobody understands dancers quite like…other dancers. That’s why some of the world’s best ballet photographers were once performers themselves.
This Sunday at 1:30 pm, New York’s WNET/13 will air Steven Caras: See Them Dance. The beautiful documentary follows the life of Caras, a former New York City Ballet dancer who went on to become a gifted dance photographer. It includes interviews with the likes of Peter Martins, Mia Michaels, Jacques d’Amboise and Allegra Kent, among others. And, of course, there’s plenty of Caras’ gorgeous photography—captivating images of stars like Mikhail Baryshnikov, Suzanne Farrell, Rudolf Nureyev and Natalia Makarova.
