Dancers Unite To Fight

November 28, 2001

The one thing better than performing? When your dancing helps raise money for an important cause.

San Francisco Ballet soloists Garen Scribner and James Sofranko have gathered a group of the Bay Area’s top dancers to do just that. Yuan Yuan Tan, Maria Kochetkova, Sarah Van Patten, Frances Chung, Joan Boada and Pierre-Francois Vilanoba of SFB will be joined by dancers from LINES, Smuin Ballet, Ballet San Jose, Maurya Kerr’s tinypistol and Amy Seiwert’s Imagery, among others, to perform in “Get in Front,” a benefit for cancer prevention. The artists will perform work by such choreographers as Christopher Wheeldon, Paul Taylor, Helgi Tomasson. Former SFB ballerina Muriel Maffre will film the event for the Museum of Performance & Design, where she now serves as executive director.

The show, titled “Get In Front” takes place tomorrow night at the Herbst Theatre at 7. Tickets run from $35 to $250, and all proceeds go to the Cancer Prevention Institute of California. Click here for tickets.
