Congrats to the 2013 "Princesses"
A few years ago, Isabella Boylston told Pointe there’s an elite club at American Ballet Theatre: “The Princesses.” It’s corps member Blaine Hoven’s nickname for the dancers like David Hallberg and Gillian Murphy who’ve been awarded a prestigious Princess Grace Award.
This year’s “Princesses” have just been announced, and it’s quite an impressive group. ABT’s Skylar Brandt, LINES’ Courtney Henry (keep an eye out for her in Pointe‘s December/January issue), Cedar Lake’s Rachelle Scott and New York Live Arts’ Talli Johnson all won dance fellowships, which fund a year’s salary at their respective companies. Juilliard student Alexander Anderson was given a dance scholarship to cover his tuition next year. Choreography fellowships were given to Rosie Herrera at Ballet Hispanico, Loni Landon at BODYTRAFFIC and Robyn Mineko Williams at Hubbard Street to underwrite the creation of a new work.
The biggest award went to New York City Ballet principal Tiler Peck. As a past Princess Grace winner, she was given the Princess Grace Statue Award this year, which comes with a $25,000 unrestricted cash prize. Congratulations to all!
