Richard Chen See Takes the Reins at NYIBC

November 28, 2001

This June, the New York International Ballet Competition will welcome a new executive director: Richard Chen See. The former Paul Taylor Dance Company member, who began working with the competition in 1993 as a rehearsal coordinator and currently acts as its director, will replace longtime leader Ilona Copen.

Chen See—who is no stranger to the ballet world, having danced with England’s Northern Ballet Theatre and the Oakland Ballet before joining PTDC—hopes to strengthen relationships with countries that have had little or no representation in the competition in previous years. “I want to allow talented dancers to rise irrespective of economic or international barriers,” he says.
