Songs of Summer

November 28, 2001

Collaborating with a composer is one of the great joys of choreographing. But it’s a luxury that’s usually reserved only for the most successful (or well-funded).

For the first time, the Composer’s Workshop invites choreographers to work with their musicians this summer in Charlotte, North Carolina. From June 19 through 24, selected dancemakers will collaborate one-on-one with internationally-acclaimed composers and musicians on a new work. Choreographers learn about the process of composing a score through daily workshops, master classes, lectures and discussions. And they’ll leave with a filmed recording of the performance, accompanied by symphony musicians. Plus, the program makes for a great summer get-away: The cost includes lakeside lodging with a private beach, kayaks and more.

Applications are due by March 13. For more details, see savvymusic.org.
