What Will the New Ballet San Jose Look Like?

November 28, 2001

Since the ousting of artistic director Dennis Nahat at the beginning of this year, Ballet San Jose has been working to detemine just what its reinvention would look like. Finally, this Saturday, the company’s season-opener gala will offer peek at what artistic advisor Wes Chapman has done with the troupe. What can audiences expect to see?

-An increased roster, including some exciting names like former San Francisco Ballet spitfire Nutnaree Pipit-Suksin.

-A repertoire cribbed from ABT, including Don Quixote, plus work by Ashton,  Cunningham and Jessica Lang, among others. (The two companies now share some resources through an artistic partnership.)

-Live music accompanying any ballets that call for it.
