Woman of Many Talents

Congrats to former Pointe cover girl Melissa Hough! The Houston Ballet first soloist just won a fellowship grant from New York Choreographic Institute to create a new piece on her fellow company members in Texas. Specifically, the grant gives her funds to choreograph a work to be performed in an informal studio showing. As Institute founder Peter Martins puts it in the press release, “The fellowship is meant to help ballet companies to create an environment in which a choreographer can develop ideas without pressure of stage production.” In other words, it’s time to play with some movement, just to see what might happen.
