It’s official—this morning, American Ballet Theatre announced a handful of much-anticipated promotions.
Not surprisingly, soloist Isabella Boylston has been named principal dancer. Boylston, who gave a critically heralded debut in the title role of Giselle two weeks ago, has been steadily increasing her repertoire of starring roles since becoming a soloist in 2011. She is a welcome American addition to the company’s roster of international stars. And Joseph Gorak, who graced Pointe’s cover last October/November, can now add promotion to soloist to his list of accomplishments. Gorak, who told us that he prefers elegance over flash, finally danced his first prince role last month in Frederick Ashton’s Cinderella.
In addition, corps members Christine Shevchenko, Devon Teuscher and Roman Zhurbin have also been named soloists. Congratulations to all!
