Misty Copeland Announces a Free Simulcast of Her ABT Farewell Performance
Yesterday, Misty Copeland, American Ballet Theatre, The Misty Copeland Foundation, and Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts announced that Copeland’s farewell performance at ABT’s Fall Gala on Wednesday, October 22, will be live streamed to Lincoln Center’s Alice Tully Hall. The free simulcast will begin at 6:15 pm, with hundreds of complimentary tickets distributed at the Alice Tully Hall box office beginning at 4 pm that day on a first-come, first-served basis (limit two tickets per person).
In a social media post, Copeland, who made history as ABT’s first Black female principal, expressed her excitement and desire to make the performance accessible: “This farewell is a celebration of everyone who has been part of my journey,” she wrote, “and I want to share it with as many of you as possible.”
Starting at 6:15 pm, a celebrity guest will lead a preshow talk before the program begins, which features highlights from ABT’s repertoire and tributes celebrating Copeland’s trailblazing career in ballet and beyond. Children and adult students from The Misty Copeland Foundation’s BE BOLD and BE BOLDER programs have also been invited to attend the simulcast, which is presented as part of ABT’s accessibility initiative, ABT RISE.
